Group Members: Kirstyn, Sarah Stato della Citta del Vaticano (aka Vatican City State) is a landlocked city state which consists of a walled city within the city of Rome. Its approximately 110 acres making it the smallest independent nation in the world. The Vaticans borders closely follw the cities wall constructed to protect the Pope from outside attack. It was created in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty. It is completely governed by the Pope. Inside the holy walls of the city lies St Peters Basilica one of the major basilicas of rome and is the most remarkable building inside the Vatican. Another amazing building located in the state is the Sistine Chapel. Population:Just over 800 people. Which includes the the Bishop of rome-the Pope. The state is virtually 100% Roman Catholic. Languages:Italian and Latin. Interesting Facts: The ethos is male-dominated. There have been efforts to gain gender equality, mainly towards the parts of nuns, but as long as the priesthood is reserved for males, it will be quite unlikely anything will change. The Vatican museums are over 9 miles long and its allegedly said that if you spent only one minute admiring each painting, it would take you four years to complete the circuit.
